Caja con cobras esquineras / Box with Corner Cobras

Of the maaaany boxes I've created by altering the common box, this one is my favorite. It came to be due to a comment from my friend Graciela, she criticized the common box which I love so much. She said it wasn't very useful since it didn't lock well. That left me thinking how to lock the box the best way possible but with the smallest and simplest alteration. That's how I ended up with tips and flaps in the corners, to which I was able to add a couple of folds in order to give them the appearance of cobras.

So I ended up with a box with extra paper in the corners, which didn't let me use a traditional lid. Fortunately, I had encountered a similar problem months before that with another box I had created: the Slanted Box with Blades. I had created a special lid for that box made from a windmill base. It's my favorite base, which I've used in many of my models. I just had to slightly alter that lid to make it perfect for this other box. It holds very well with the help of the cobras and it also highlights them visually as it offers a contrasting background color.

Just like the common box, it makes great use of its space (as it doesn't add layers together) and it also allows you to alter the width of the box and the height of the walls. As you do that, you simultaneously alter the size of the cobras, and also, the sides of the lid cover more or less of the walls of the box; the box in the photos was made from a 3 X 3 grid. You could even give a rectangular form to the box and lid. You would just have to use rectangular paper.
